Rediscovering the Stag beetle, Portugal

July 12, 2023

In Portugal, there is an old cultural connection with the largest bug in Europe – the Stag beetle. You don’t see them often in Portuguese these days. They are considered an endangered species that is fighting for their existence as they are losing their natural habitat of oak forests. In addition to the activities with which they take care of afforestation, the BioSenior project also carried out several activities with which the elderly got to know the carob again. With the activities, they wanted the elderly to discover more about the ecological role that stag beetle plays in preserving the forest.
