Stay at Home initiative, Latvia

July 12, 2023

the spring of 2020, at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, was established the volunteer help movement “Stay at Home”, which coordinated volunteers all over Latvia, bringing together people who need practical help with those who wanted to provide it. Movement’s volunteers assisted in the purchase of food, hygiene items, over-the-counter medications, helped out dogs, and were available for telephone calls and other support to those in quarantine or self-isolation, mutually agreeing on the amount of assistance and the type of support with its recipients.

As  to other outputs in the Covid-19 first phase in average 37 deliveries were ensured per day, 64 local coordinators implemented their coordination work and as we learn now – many continued to help also beyond the system on the personal basis.
