During the COVID-19 pandemic, voluntary groups were set up to help people in vulnerable groups, such as the elderly, people with chronic illnesses or disabilities, to be able to get the goods and services they need and stay at home to avoid the risk of infection by the virus. Volunteers in these groups could buy food, medicines and other items on behalf of people who could not leave their homes, and some groups provided other services such as food delivery or telephone communication to offer social support to those who felt alone and isolated.
