Bulgarian Red Cross initiative “Warm Lunch” for disadvantaged children, Bulgaria

July 12, 2023

“Warm Lunch” Programme started in 2004 as a Red Cross Initiative. The financial resources needed for its implementation are provided through joint charity campaigns of the partners of the Charity Partner Network of the Bulgarian Red Cross. The main objective of the programme is to support disadvantaged students and their parents. Often the free hot lunch that these children receive every day during the school year is the only reason they attend school. The programme contributes to the normal physical development of adolescents, reducing the morbidity among them resulting from irregular and inadequate nutrition.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, on 17.12.2020, 60 children from the Blagoevgrad region received food packages and an “Activity kit” for educational and creative activities. The food packs contained basic necessities and the educational packs contained school supplies, backpacks, puzzles, books, etc. Due to the epidemiological measures, the children received the food in the form of food parcels to take home.
