Project of retired seamstresses, 10,500 masks in six days, Slovenia

July 13, 2023

In the first wave of the coronavirus epidemic, there was a huge shortage of protective masks. After the government decreed the mandatory wear of protective masks for visiting shops, pharmacies and other similar closed spaces, the demand for protective masks was even greater. The Civil Protection headquarters of the Hrastnik municipality activated many active and retired seamstresses, who in six days cut and sewed 10,500 washable protective masks. A project that seemed unfeasible in practice. But 36 seamstresses responded, and with their selfless and sacrificial work during the epidemic, they significantly helped in the fight against the spread of COVID-19 in the area of the Hrastnik municipality. In just 6 days, working day and night, they managed to sew 10,500 masks, which were given to every household in the municipality of Hrastnik.
